Amazon invests 1 billion euros to expand electric vehicle transportation infrastructure
Amazon has invested more than 1 billion euros (about 1.3 trillion won) to introduce thousands of electric trucks, vans, and cargo bikes throughout Europe over the next five years, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
It plans to promote innovation in the transportation industry and encourage public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EV). First, Amazon plans to increase the number of electric van transport fleets from 3,000 to 10,000 by 2025 and drop 300 million pounds (about 474 billion won) to the UK, increasing the number of large cargo trucks from five to 700 units from 5 to 700.
In addition, Amazon will use Cargo Bike, a means of delivery of electricity, to build a micromobility hub, which is now aimed at doubling in 20 European cities with related systems. Last year, the company said that 3,000 unveiled vans delivered more than 100 million items.
Recently, Amazon signed a contract with 100,000 electric vans manufactured by Libyan Automotive. The company has announced investment in thousands of electric chargers across Europe by 2025 and 2025. In addition, Amazon plans to secure more than 1,500 electric vehicles.
